Our digitizers have been doing this work since 2015. Years inside commercial production taught us where the real cost sits. It is not the price of a file. It is the two days a shop waits for one, and the machine downtime that follows when the file finally arrives and breaks thread on the third head.
Both sides of the market were losing money to the same two problems. High-volume decorators were holding orders on a next-day cycle. Small businesses were paying rush fees on top of a base price just to get a logo before the weekend.

What a Level 5 digitizer actually does
Level 5 is our internal grade for a digitizer with a minimum of five years of commercial production experience. All 30 digitizers on our floor hold it.
- Sets underlay by fabric, not by template. Piqué, fleece, twill, performance knit, and leather each get a different foundation.
- Calculates push and pull compensation per axis, so a circle still reads as a circle after the machine pulls the fabric.
- Sequences color blocks to cut trims and jumps, which is what actually shortens run time on a multi-head.
- Digitizes 3mm lettering that survives industrial laundering instead of closing up after ten washes.
- Handles 3D puff and foam with correct stitch escape and cap sequencing, so foam does not show at the edges.
- Rebuilds low-resolution artwork into clean stitch geometry rather than tracing the pixel edges.
- Reads a sew-out and diagnoses the file, not the machine.
No auto-digitizing software is ever used on your artwork. Not for simple logos, not at the $15 tier, not at any point in the queue.
Auto-digitizing traces the color boundaries in an image and calls it a design. It has no view of fabric behavior, so it applies default underlay, inflates the stitch count, and ignores push and pull entirely. Every file that fails on your frame costs more than the file cost to buy.

A case from our floor: sequencing a left chest flag at 17,369 stitches

The design
A left chest American flag build at 3.51 by 2.01 inches. The smallest, most detailed element in the file is the fifty-star field set inside the canton.

The digitizing decision
The file runs in five stops across four colors: white for the stripes, dark red, dark blue for the canton, yellow for the border, then white again for the stars, stitched dead last. Sequencing the star field last means no later pass crosses over it or knocks down its definition.

The result
The flag sewed clean onto a white T-shirt at left chest scale. Stripes and border held their line, and the star field stayed crisp on top of the blue canton. Delivered in Tajima DST at the Standard $15 tier, on a 1 to 2 hour rush.

Where is Embroidery Digitizing Services located?
We are headquartered in Los Angeles, California. We digitize for shops and brands across the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Support runs 8am to 9pm PT Monday through Saturday and 8am to 6pm PT on Sunday.
Do you use auto-digitizing software?
No. Every file is digitized manually by a Level 5 digitizer with at least five years of commercial experience. Auto-digitizing produces inflated stitch counts and default underlay that fails on real fabric, so we do not use it on any order at any tier.
What files will I receive?
You receive the machine format you select on your order: DST (Tajima), PES (Brother and Baby Lock), JEF (Janome), EXP (Melco and Bernina), VP3 (Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff), XXX (Singer), or ART (Bernina). Every order also includes a PDF or JPG color chart and a digital preview. Additional formats, along with native EMB, PXF, or OFM source files, are sent on request.
How do you handle complex fabrics like stretch polyester or 3D foam?
With custom pull compensation and underlay mapping set per job, not per template. Stretch polyester needs compensation calculated for how far the fabric travels under the needle. Foam needs stitch escape and sequencing planned before the first stitch is punched.
